For a party Rose is preparing, she needs to buy bags with strawberry candy and some with mint candy. She knows that both flavours have the same amount of candies in each bag but different number if the flavours are different.
She can get 96 candies buying 3 bags of strawberry and 6 of mint, or buying 6 of strawberry and 4 of mint. What is the amount of candy in the strawberry bags?
Help: If we represent the bag of strawberrys as a thick rectangle and the bag of mints as a thin rectangle it will help us to find the answer.
Let’s think that we put the bags in an scale. We could balance it as it is shown in the diagram below because there are 96 candy pieces in both plates.
Notice that the balance is maintained if you remove the same in the two dishes.

Now let’s continue with the solution to this problem.
